But it took four days of traveling and a treacherous drive through the mountains of Veracruz y Chiapas to get here.
Leaving from Mexico City (D.F). we were packed in the van like sardines, we slowly worked our way south. There are 11 of us in the van plus enough gear to rock a live show. Weezy bumped through the subwoofers. The band was a little hungover from two bottellas de tequila. Smooth R and B bass thumps. Each bump in the road rattles the van’s frame.
This Ford Econoline was home for five of us who made the nearly three day drive from Salinas to DF. Each bench was a room. They rotated shifts and drove straight through by way of Texas and border town Laredo. Bloodsport and old school movies provided entertainment.
When they arrived tired and filthy, a skirmish (to put it lightly) with state police greeted them. But they made it to the hotel where celebration and full service tequila drinking ensued. We got up early and traversed the dangerous pothole, rain filled roads to get here. It was a 12 hour drive but upon arrival we were greeted with incredible hospitality.
Manik B, a reggae singer, who set up our two shows here with Bocafloja opened his house to us--as well as his friend Catalina. We had our own rooms, slept good for once and took cold showers in th emorning.
Our food is here---a tamal wrapped in banana leaf. Got to eat!!!! til later.
